The Sign Shop Crew
  • The sign shop crew consists of seven inmate workers supervised by a Fire Crew Captain.
  • In addition to working in the sign shop, they are part of a fire crew that responds to emergencies statewide.

About the Sign Shop
  • The sign shop operates a computer operated router – called a Camtool.

The Camtool
  • The Camtool can be used to Route, Engrave, 3D mill or plot all types of materials including plastic, acrylic, MDF, wood, composites, brass and aluminum. It can engrave tiny letters smaller than .050" or cut signs 36" wide by any length in long sign mode. Advanced contouring at cutting speeds up to 200 in/min allows us to cut complex graphics with curves and arcs smoothly and accurately. With its computer controlled 5" z axis clearance and 6" stroke, the Camtool can cut thick materials such as wood or foam board using the multi-pass mode.

Ordering
  • It’s easy to place an order with the Garden Sign Shop.
  • If you work for CDF, simply complete an MRT and mail it to Devil’s Garden Camp at P.O. Box 100, Alturas, CA  96101, or fax it to (530) 233-5895.
  • Other agencies may make requests through the FC-80 process and by completing a Sponsor’s Application for Project form available on this website.
  • In either case, just give us a call if you have questions regarding a project.

Pricing
  • Prices on plastic signs depends on the materials used and size of sign ordered.
  • Pricing on wood signs is based on size and thickness of sign as well as whether it is double or single sided.
  • Please call in advance for a price quote or to confirm current pricing (530) 233-3634.
  • CDF will be billed via MRT while all other state agencies will be billed through the FC-80 process.

Materials
  • Signs can be made of wood or plastic.  Wood signs are available in redwood and cedar.
  • Plastics are available in single, double and even triple color layers and in several textures.

Fonts
  • The software used by the Camtool allows for a wide range of fonts and sizes.
  • You can select the font or we can format it for you.
  • Sign graphics should be provided in an electronic format.

  • All sign products made at Devil’s Garden Conservation Camp are fabricated utilizing inmate labor. Cost of each product includes actual materials plus an equipment appreciation and depreciation surcharge and shipping.
