BURN PERMIT SUSPENSION IN LASSEN AND MODOC COUNTIES INCLUDING THE ALMANOR BASIN OF PLUMAS COUNTY

SUSANVILLE – CAL FIRE Unit Chief Brad Lutts issued a Proclamation today that all residential burn permits within the State Responsibility Area in Lassen and Modoc Counties, including the Almanor Basin of Plumas County, will be suspended midnight June 26, 2008.

Residential burning will not be permitted until the suspension has been cancelled by Chief Lutts. Agricultural, training, campfire permits and vegetation control burns conducted under permit are not affected by the Proclamation.
“You provide the defense – we’ll provide the offense” said Chief Lutts. This is sound advice for California homeowners. It is of vital importance for all homeowners and residents to maintain adequate clearance around their homes. State Law (Public Resources Code 4291) states a minimum of 100 feet of clearance of flammable vegetation around all structures. This clearance called “defensible space” by firefighters allows fire crews a chance to safely protect homes from an advancing fire. Remember, defensible space is your responsibility.

Chief Lutts asks for everyone’s cooperation in helping prevent fires, especially with the current number of fires in the state. Chief Lutts wants everyone to have an enjoyable 4th of July, but warns that fireworks are illegal in the unincorporated areas of Lassen, Modoc and Plumas Counties.
Call the Fire Prevention Bureau if you have any fire concerns.

For more information on burning requirements, contact your local fire department or visit the CAL FIRE website at www.fire.ca.gov .
