The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
has a comprehensive safety and injury and illness prevention
program designed to protect the physical well-being
of our employees. Each of the 21 CAL FIRE Units has a safety
committee. Those 21 committees are responsible to the
Unit Chief of that Unit. The committees work closely
with the Region Safety Committee, and the Department's
Occupational Safety and Health Program (OSHPro).
The coordinator for the Lassen-Modoc-Plumas Unit Safety
Program is Battalion Chief Sean Delacour. Chief Delacour
chairs the Unit's safety committee which serves as a
focal point for safety related issues by gathering and
disseminating safety information using a review process,
in an attempt to provide as safe a work environment
as possible. In addition, the committee is charged to
research, identify, and share new information and technology
related to safe practices.
The safety committee provides a channel for two-way
communication that encourages employees at all levels
and classifications to participate in the Unit's Safety
Program. Committee membership is made up of one representative
of each classification (fire captain, equipment operator,
clerical). This structure provides a voice to all employees
within the Unit to raise and pursue safety concerns.
