Susanville Training Center

Susanville Training Center is operated by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and is one of two training centers providing inmate fire fighters to conservation camps statewide.

Susanville Training Center is located in the California Correctional Center eight miles east of Susanville in Lassen County.

The training center provides highly trained inmates to conservation camps located in the north state.  Inmates undergo one week of classroom training and a week of field training, covering wildland fire safety and attack, hand tool use, teamwork, and crew expectations.  In addition to receiving education in fire fighting and safety, each inmate is trained and evaluated for physical fitness.

Susanville Training Center is staffed by CAL FIRE personnel.  CAL FIRE staff include one battalion chief, one office technician, and seven fire captains.
