Susanville Training Center
Susanville Training Center is operated by the California
Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the California
Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and is
one of two training centers providing inmate fire fighters
to conservation camps statewide.
Susanville Training Center is located in the California
Correctional Center eight miles east of Susanville in
Lassen County.
The training center provides highly trained inmates
to conservation camps located in the north state.
Inmates undergo one week of classroom training and a
week of field training, covering wildland fire safety
and attack, hand tool use, teamwork, and crew expectations.
In addition to receiving education in fire fighting
and safety, each inmate is trained and evaluated for
physical fitness.
Susanville Training Center is staffed by CAL FIRE personnel.
CAL FIRE staff include one battalion chief, one office technician,
and seven fire captains.
